In 1893 Chicago had 6 panorama companies and 6 rotundas. William Wehner of Chicago had his panorama studio in downtown Milwaukee. My great aunt, Mathilde Georgine Schley[1864-1941] was an artist in Wehner’s studio. On September 18, 2003 I found hidden in plain sight the F.W.Heine diaries ,1879-1921, in a display case in the Milwaukee County Historical Society. I alerted museum authorities that these should be transcribed in German and translated into English. The Bradley Foundation provided a $50,000 grant to have the diaries transcribed, translated and scanned onto computer. Also, a cache of 150 glass plate negatives were found in an old house in a basement behind the furnace in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. These were the property of panorama painter Bernard Schneider. The plates were taken to a photographer and were scanned on a computer, and later were displayed at Museum of Wisconsin Art. I have much info to share.Regards , Gene Meier
